Going forward from the last post wondering about this
man who is celebrated this time of year as one risen from the dead. In this post we’ll continue on in the book of John to a second ‘I AM’ statement Jesus made about himself. Again a bold declaration! That HE is the light of the world. How audacious of Him. As if without Him there would be no light. In the absence of
light there is only darkness. How could this man make such a claim? Is it possible that he is more than a mere a man? Could He actually be what He has claimed himself to be? Creator God in the flesh?
If that be the case is it not logical that the one who spoke light into existence could boldly claim such a thing? For in the beginning – yes even the atheists have come to agree there was a beginning point. So that is a definitive point. The sting comes when one chooses to believe there was a creator of the universe-God, vs. the universe creating itself and having blind faith that an explanation other than a creator will yet be found. I choose to put my faith where the evidence leads. God was the cause and the world we see was the outcome. Cause and effect.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and “Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. Genesis 1:1 & 3-4
Remember in the first post of this series exploring Jesus as the Bread of Life we looked at John 1:1-4. Now in verse 4 we see there is also confirmation of this second I AM statement: “…In Him was life, and the life was the light of men…”
In Jesus we have life and light. Apart from Jesus is death and darkness.
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. John 5:24
I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. John 12:46
For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure.” II Corinthians 4:6,7
Life and Light come through HIM alone. And when this world as we know it is gone, that LIGHT will continue for all eternity. And all who are in Him shall never experience darkness again! HALLEULUJAHUntil next time may the God of peace make you complete in every good work to do His will.
